OBJECTIVES
Why Learn Intermediate Hokkien With Us?
Let's Go Deeper into Conversation Creations
If you are thinking of joining our Intermediate Hokkien Classes, you should already know a bunch of commonly-used Singapore Hokkien words spanning these topics: Greetings, Numbers, Time, Dates, Hobbies, Daily Activities, Common Body Parts & Medical Terms and Food. (P.S. If you have attended our Hokkien Workshop for Beginners, you are good to go!)
During your Intermediate Hokkien Classes, we want to help you converse fluently and naturally in Singapore Hokkien. Besides improving your vocabulary, you will learn how to better structure questions and sentences, so that you can further express yourselves in terms of what you see, feel, or experience in your daily life.
Efficient Learning through Fun Activities
Traditional language classes spend many sessions building vocabulary or teaching sentence structures by repeating each word or sentence after the tutor for x times. For us, we believe that if learning is not fun, you will lose the motivation to learn. Hence, it would not be effective even if you sit through multiple lessons.
This is why during your Intermediate Hokkien Classes, you will be engaged in many activities. We don’t want to give your surprises away, but let’s just say, time often flies by in a flash. By the end of your classes, you will walk away with an improved standard of Singapore Hokkien.

How do I know if the Intermediate Hokkien Classes are suitable for me?
Ski: If you had attended our Hokkien Workshop for Beginners, you are good to go! If not, after we receive your application, we’ll give you a call to address your concerns.
Eugene: Yes, I’ll have a quick chat with you to ensure that the Intermediate Hokkien classes fit your proficiency level. Talk soon, shall we?
Any COVID-19 safe distancing and safe management measures in place?
Ski: Definitely. Your safety is our top concern, and as such, we are always enforcing the current safe management measures. We seek your kind understanding and cooperation.
The in-person classes consist of 2 x 4-hour sessions. Why not regular 8 x 1-hour sessions instead?
Ski: Personally, we find that 8 x 1-hour sessions are not an efficient use of time. Think about the time you take to travel to and fro. You’ll have to multiply that by 8. What about that usual 5-10 minutes that the facilitators take to wait for latecomers? Multiply that by 8 too. That’s the amount of time that you have committed without learning anything yet.
Eugene: So for us, we prefer highly-focused classes. Since there is a need to travel anyway, we want you to get the most value out of each session. Plus, it’s easier to deal with an overall commitment of 2 weeks, rather than 8 weeks. Don’t you agree?
I'm worried that I can't sit through a 4-hour lecture to learn dialect. Is this teaching style meant for me?
Ski: I hear you! In fact, during my schooling days, I had trouble paying attention even for a 1-hour lecture. So your concern is totally valid. This is precisely the reason why we include many activities in our classes. Time flies by in a flash when you are being engaged and having fun! There are breaks too. If it helps to assure you, these are some of the feedback from our participants.
Eugene: Yes, we do not like regurgitation or one-way delivery. So fret not, you’ll not be sitting straight for 4 hours and listening to boring lectures. The facilitators love an interactive class too!
If I'm a slow learner, can I keep up with your express classes?
Ski: Hey, high five! I’m a slow learner too. My personal experience is that it doesn’t matter how fast or slow you learn. The more important factor is, how much time and effort are you putting into practice? So if I may, here’s a piece of advice: Don’t shy away from our activities during the classes. The more you practise, the more we can help to correct your pronunciation.
Eugene: We’ve put in lots of effort in designing the classes to teach you the tactics of learning dialect(s) quickly. However, if you refuse to speak up during class, your learning is likely to be rather limited. It’s akin to playing tennis. You can read up on all the theories and buy every available book. However, if you don’t go to the court and play it, you’ll never learn it well. So for learning dialects, it’s the same. You’ve got to put in the effort and be courageous enough to keep speaking it. We’ll also be here to support you even after the classes end!
